Last week we had a call from a home owner near us in East Sussex. They were having the old barn renovated but had honey bees in the walls!
The owners thought they had been there for nearly 10 years. Sometime ago another beekeeper had tired to entice them out with an old beehive. Unfortunately they didn’t like it as they were obviously nice and comfy!
Here you will see a speeded up video of us removing the wild colony, carefully taking the comb and brood out and sucking all the bees up into a bee vac! The new vac carefully sucks the bees into a small nuc with beeswax frames in so they can start setting up their new home. Once at our site we will transfer some of the comb with brood on into this nuc.
