Unfortunately honey bees suffer from a mite called the Varroa Mite. This nasty little thing causes no end of problems including deforming the bees wings which prevents them foraging and therefore producing honey.
The girls are given a treatment over several weeks to kill the mite. Like us we have all had to have a vaccination here and there therefore the girls have had their own 'vapination' as well. Booster is due next weekend!
Hopefully this will make the colony clean and healthy ready for the season to start in a few months time. My PPE to protect myself was ovbiously nice and tight!
